Use Hex in Claude

Add Hex to Claude as a custom connector (MCP) so Claude can read your SEO data and run Hex tools in a conversation.

Hex is an MCP server at https://api.hexseo.au/mcp. Claude can use it to answer questions about your sites, rankings, Search Console data, crawls and reports.

claude.ai and Claude Desktop

  1. In Claude, open Settings > Connectors > Add custom connector. On Team and Enterprise plans an owner adds it under organisation settings first.
  2. Name it Hex and use the URL https://api.hexseo.au/mcp. No client ID or secret is needed.
  3. Choose Connect, sign in to Hex, pick the workspace and choose Allow.
  4. In a chat, turn Hex on in the tools menu and ask, for example, “Which pages lost the most clicks this month?”

Claude Code

claude mcp add --transport http hex https://api.hexseo.au/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer hex_YOUR_WORKSPACE_KEY"

Use a viewer key for read-only access, or an editor key to allow crawls, report drafts and paid lookups.

Permissions and cost

  • A connection works in one workspace and acts with your role, capped at editor.
  • Paid tools (keyword research, SERP insights, content briefs) return a cost estimate first; Claude should show it and ask before running.
  • Workspace admins can see and revoke connected apps under Team & settings.
